If you’re considering a career in learning disabilities care, Halland House is a great place. With a family atmosphere, a beautiful location and opportunities to further your career, we have a lot to offer.
Learning disabilities care at Halland House
Halland House is a learning disabilities care home so if you’ve previously worked in elderly care, you will find it quite different. We have residents of all ages but all of them have some level of learning disability.
We provide care for all levels of learning disabilities, from those developing independent living skills to people with PMLD (profound and multiple learning disability).
Working in learning disability care means having a lot of patience but it can be incredibly fulfilling and rewarding. Find out more about working with people with learning disabilities.
What is Halland House like?
Halland House is divided into three areas with 29 rooms in total. The ground floor houses our highly dependent residents, with the care team providing round-the-clock support; the first floor is for our reasonably able residents, who want more independence but still need some support; The Lodge, our dedicated annexe, houses residents who are practising independent living skills.
The house was once an Edwardian family home and has been altered and updated over the years. It was established as a care home in 1972 and some of the original residents are still living here now. The house has a lovely garden and grounds so plenty of outdoor space for activities. It is located in a peaceful position surrounded by beautiful scenery, the perfect place for people who can get overwhelmed by noise and crowds. The location means that you’ll need your own transport, be it a bike, car or even scooter.
Become part of the family
Our residents and staff are one big family. If you’re thinking of working at Halland House, the friendly atmosphere and supportive team is a big plus. If you’ve worked as a home carer you’ll know how lonely it can be, but working in a care home like ours is completely different. You’ll never be alone in your work and we have each other’s backs.
Although Halland House is a large home, the way it is divided up means that each area has a smaller, more close-knit team. You’ll get to really know the residents and the other staff, with everyone working together to make a good life for all.
Develop your career
While we prefer to welcome new people with some experience in LD care, you will get all the training you need right here. Career development is a significant plus to consider if you’re thinking of working at Halland House. We put a lot of emphasis on enhancing the skills of our team and can help you get formal qualifications as well as a wealth of life experience. You’ll find that you learn a lot from our residents as well as the rest of our team.
With a wide range of abilities among our residents you’ll find that the work is varied and interesting. From assisting the highly dependent residents to helping people perfect their independent living skills, we’ll make sure you find a place in the team that’s right for you. Then there’s the fun activities that regularly take place — you might even find yourself helping out with the Christmas panto!
